A pastor who was arrested in Sebokeng in the Vaal, for allegedly conducting a church service on Sunday, has been released by the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court.
John Radebe’s arrest came after police attempted to disperse a group of worshippers at a church, but a group of about 250 congregants defied police orders to disperse, leading to violence.
Three people, including a pastor, were arrested for violating the Disaster Management Act.
Radebe, who was speaking outside the court, said it was church leaders who had gathered at the time when the police arrived. He added they were trying to draft a letter of grievances to government, as church services may not be held in accordance with Covid-19 Level 3 restriction regulations.
