Chomee slams ‘false’ reports about R2m NAC grant

Chomee has hit back at reports that she received R2-million from the National Arts Council (NAC) relief fund.

The NAC funding is meant to help the struggling arts and culture industry during the pandemic.

According to a Daily Sun report, the council approved the funding for Chomee’s company, Divatainment.

The company reportedly planned to use the money for a project called the Online Broadcasting Development Programme.
A source told the publication that Chomee allegedly bought a brand new car with the money.

But Chomee denies taking advantage of the fund. She says she applied for funding and was approved like thousands of other applicants.

Chomee questioned why she was being targeted.

“Is it because I’m not deserving of funding or because I am a black woman? The list released showed women of all races who applied for funding, got approved and received some payment, and no-one is asking them anything, ” Chomee said in a statement.

She added that she is yet to receive any money from the fund.

“It is falsely reported that I received R2-million and to date, I have not received a cent in my account to start this project.”
