South Africa received the first delivery of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the O.R. Tambo International Airport last night. The vaccines has been approved by South Africa Health Products Authority.

J&J has also made its vaccine to be more accessible for health care workers. They offering the first shot to the workers and allowing them to take the second dose home. The vaccine can be stored in a standard refrigerator. This way health care workers would not need to come in for the second dose.

Since the infection rate is so high in South Africa, officials are still going to rely on other companies that also make the vaccine like Pfizer and BioNTech. The goal is to vaccinate two-thirds of the countries population by the end of this year. J&J is also planning on expanding its vaccine to other countries as well.
