The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has launched an investigation after a man was shot during an altercation at a lodge in Muldersdrift at the weekend.
It is alleged that the guest got into an altercation with staff and management at the Misty Hills Lodge after they noticed that he was carrying a firearm.
It is further alleged that the man left and returned a short while later without the gun and was allocated a room.
Officers were called to the scene following reports of a fight at the lodge.
According to Ipid spokesperson, Grace Langa, lodge management asked the man to leave and he refused.
Langa said the manager told the man he will refund him.
“The guest became aggressive and police were called to assist. The man then argued with police who arrived at the lodge,” Langa said.
Man disarms officer
In the video, the man is heard shouting and swearing at police officers. He is then seen holding a firearm and cocking it. Langa said at this point, a bullet fell on the ground.
The man continues to shout at the police.
An officer is then heard saying; “You are playing dangerous” to which the man responds; “Who’s playing dangerous? You f***ing coward. Come on. Take that gun. Shoot me! Shoot me!”
Langa said the man then disarmed a police officer and a second policeman drew his gun and shot the man once in the head.
“He was taken to hospital under police guard,” Langa said.
It is alleged that the guest assaulted two police officers prior to the video being filmed.
